FreeMo is a modular specification that standardizes the endplates of portable HO scale railroad modules so they can be joined together and form a larger railroad. It's more than that though; building modular lets us choose the track plan at every club operating session, so we always have variety in limited space. It lets us bring the railroad to events, even outdoors, so others can experience model railroading and so we're not stuck inside. It lets us flip the railroad upside down to work on the wiring. And it lets us connect with modules from around the country, setting up larger railroads than what would fit in a basement, all while meeting new people and operating on a custom track plan each time.
