Urbana Freemo Open

Urbana Freemo Open is part of a larger train show at the Lincoln Square Mall in Urbana IL at the end of March. Lincoln Square is one of those rare malls that has a good selection of locally-owned stores rather than just clothing. The Train Show fills the mall with model trains – many of them for sale, others to see operating or operate yourself. The event is Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, a large section is taken up by the Saturday Market which ends at noon, in the past leaving an empty spot for the rest of the train show.

IRC helped start Urbana FreeMo Open in 2023. Saturday Morning, FreeMo modules are brought to the mall and staged off to the side. Around noon, the market is taken down and FreeMo is set up in its place. We call this an Open rather than a Meet since the track plan is decided or modified as modules arrive and may grow during the event. The result is a route with yards and industries that is different each year.

There is plenty of space after the market leaves. Are you ready to build the UFO?

RSVP is requested but can be in-person at setup. If you want a table at the train show, which is included for free if you bring a module, contact ITD beforehand.
